Getting Rid of Unwanted Belongings

If you have moved before or are in the process of moving, you may notice that you are finding a lot of items that you have never used or no longer need.  If there is one upside to moving it is the opportunity to downsize and organize your life by removing clutter.  As the premier Kootenai movers here are some tips on how to get rid of all of that unwanted stuff.

How Removing Clutter Will Make your Move Easier

The less boxes and items that you must pack, the easier your move will be.  Less items translates directly into savings for you.  Either you will have to pay a moving company less because there are fewer items or you will need to take fewer trips in your car which will save you gas.  Regardless, it is a great deal for you.

So how do you determine what items are unnecessary and what items you should pack?

What to Get Rid of When Moving

Perhaps the best way of determining whether you need an item or not is to do some inventorying.  This process will allow you to sort through your belongings and see what items are indispensable and will be coming and what items you are somewhat on the fence with.  Belongings such as:

  • Clothes or shoes that you have grown out of.
  • Duplicate items or outdated belongings.
  • Forgotten items and gifts that you never really liked, but kept out of nostalgia.

These types of items should be either sold or donated and should not be part of your move.

How to Get Rid of Unwanted Stuff

Once you have determined what items you will not be packing, take a moment and look at their condition and if they are can be sold or not.  If any of the items are broken or well worn, it is probably best to throw them out.

If you feel that some of the unwanted items are worth money, it may be a good idea to either sell them online or if you have enough sellable items have a yard sale.  The money that you get from your unwanted belongings should be put towards your move.

Another great option is to donate your unwanted items to one of many charities or to your local Salvation Army.  Only donate items that are in good condition, not broken or damaged belongings.

By getting rid of your unwanted or unused belongings, you should be able to significantly reduce the amount of items that you are moving.  Use your move to reorganize your life and open up space in your new home.
